obSESSED: Houndstooth Part 1

August 29, 2011

Oh, houndstooth, the most classic of classic patterns, in my book anyway. The above houndstooth overload is from my closet, and I think I even forgot to include a few pieces:

[Clockwise from top: Blazer from Dovetail, thrifted silk blouse (checked, not houndstooth but almost), thrifted bag, plaid/houndstooth skirt from TJ Maxx, thrifted skirt w/paisley detail, ancient camera case from Best Buy, wallet from Target (on clearance for $3.24! and yes it's falling apart), wool Chuck Taylor super high-tops from Espace in 2006, vintage wool skirt from Secret Closet - my favorite. I die for that button detail/pockets.]

Also RIP to my houndstooth slingbacks from the mid-aughties that I still miss. I have been head-over-heels for houndstooth, particularly the black and white or black and cream variety, for a very long time. This is partially because I have an obsession with black and white (solidified by my hair color circa 2005-2006), partially because I love the pattern. My collection has grown and evolved over the years and I keep adding to it. I should note, I don’t typically mix the above pieces!

Based on my recent run in with InStyle magazine and subsequently the interwebs, apparently my favorite pattern ever is hot on the runways for this fall. This could mean good and bad things – good because there will be houndstooth EVERYWHERE, bad because there will be houndstooth I can’t afford EVERYWHERE, and everyone and their mother will be wearing it even more than before, which will subsequently irk me. Regardless, I received this image via text the other night from a friend, and I am still crying tears of joy/envy:

If I had to pick, I’d take the $950 ponyskin pumps, but I’d really like all the pieces, sofa included.

While looking for this image, I came across the same ensemble here as well and had to share:

[Image via GagaFashionLand.com] Yep, Lady Gaga in full Ferragamo houndstooth. Diggin the nails.

So yes, houndstooth is undoubtedly “in” and I don’t care either way, I’m still obSESSED. Part 2 will bring you more houndstooth looks that I’ve got my eye on thanks to the upcoming fall season. I was kind of upset that summer is winding down, but this little pattern just got me a bit psyched for cooler temps.

What’s your favorite pattern or print? Do you have a go-to that is filling your closet as well?

I too am obsessed with houndstooth, and found your blog when doing a search for the dress I’ve become obsessed with. I saw it on another blogger’s site and have emailed her and tried to post to her blog with no success. I was wondering if you’ve seen this and have any ideas for me.

I found it in case you are interested–it can be found on Nextdirect.com, and it comes in red/black and white/black.
